Sustainable Hygiene with Brush with Bamboo

Brush With Bamboo

Hi friends! Today I wanted to take the time to share with you guys a bit about an amazing company called Brush With Bamboo!

A toothbrush is a basic item that we use so much that we probably never even think twice about it. But did you know that around the world over 4.7 billion plastic toothbrushes are thrown away each year? These toothbrushes will never biodegrade and they end up polluting our oceans and our land. It's no doubt that plastic pollution is a crisis and we need to take action in order to help our earth heal. It seems intimidating at first, but taking the first step to creating less waste can be as simple as swapping your plastic toothbrushes for bamboo options.

Brush With Bamboo

When I first made the switch to bamboo toothbrushes a little less than a year ago, I had trouble finding the chemical and treatment-free vegan toothbrush that I wanted. Not to mention that the first company I bought from packaged their toothbrushes individually in plastic bags! I was so confused and really upset about how counterproductive that is. I knew I had to search for a brand that not only created the product I wanted, but did so in a caring, sustainable way. When I found Brush with Bamboo I knew I had found a company that I wanted to support 100%.

Brush with Bamboo's toothbrushes are the world's first fully plant-based toothbrush. The bristles are made of castor bean oil that is made in the USA and the handles are 100% certified organic bamboo. The toothbrushes are also a certified biobased product, certified vegan (some bamboo toothbrushes use pig hair as thanks!) and they are a Green America certified business. A lot of bamboo is treated, but Brush with Bamboo uses wild-harvested bamboo and no chemicals or treatments are ever used in growing, harvesting, processing, etc. And they just recently received their official organic certification! Woot woot!

You can read more about their bamboo and process here.

Compostable Packaging

The best part is that their packaging is entirely compostable and biodegradable! The toothbrushes come packaged in a cardboard box and a wrapper that looks like plastic but is actually made from a non-GMO wood cellulose that is completely compostable! This just makes my heart so happy to be able to throw the packaging into my backyard compost bin instead of the trash or even recycling bin.

The amazing creatives behind Brush with Bamboo is the Kumar family. Not only have they created a world changing company, but they also have an organic permaculture garden in their suburban home that produces 5000 pounds of food annually. Many of you guys know that it is my dream to have a farm someday but I currently live in a suburb so this is extremely inspiring to me and proof that no matter where you live, you can take steps to grow your own and live in a more sustainable environment! Imagine if we all used our yards to grow food instead of grass...

The Kumar family also manages an organic farm near their home that provides healthy food for families.
