Nontoxic Seasonal Allergy Relief
When most hear seasonal allergy relief, they think of something like Claritin D or Allegra. Although those medicines may offer temporary relief, they are doing more harm than good. To put this simply, Claritin is owned by Bayer, who is in cahoots with Monsanto.

Medications like Claritin D or Allegra also contain GMOs and toxic ingredients such as titanium dioxide. This year during allergy season, skip these dangerous medicines and turn to something more natural and nontoxic for relief that actually works.
The problem with our health care system today is that we are so focused on treating the symptoms instead of treating the cause. In order to find true health, one must get to the root of their health issues and work their way from the inside out, not just resort right away to medications that may or may not mute the symptoms for the time being.
So even when it comes to something like seasonal allergies, we don't just want to treat the symptoms like a medication would, we want to get to the root cause. Like most other ailments, seasonal allergies are a sign of other underlying health issues. When your immune system is compromised, you are more likely to experience seasonal allergies. Bigger things like pregnancy or recent surgery can cause this, but as can smaller things such as unhealthy sleeping habits, high stress, eating animal products and processed foods, etc.
Strengthen your immune system
Making sure you have a healthy immune system during allergy season (and really all seasons!) is especially important in reducing your allergy symptoms. By cutting out or cutting down on processed foods, refined sugars, animal products, and non-organic foods, you can strengthen your immune system immensely. It's also important to be conscious about certain foods that you are sensitive to such as gluten, alcohol, excess caffeine, soy, etc and avoid these as well. I am definitely going to be more vigilant in eating more fresh fruits and veggies and avoiding refined sugars and processed foods in order to keep my immune system strong this season.
After becoming vegan last summer, by the time fall allergies rolled around, my symptoms were still present, but definitely not as bad as they have been in the past. Eating a healthy plant based diet will definitely do wonders for your immune system. Another one of my favorite immune system booster is organic Elderberry Syrup.
Making sure your immune system is strong is going to be your key allergy symptom fighter. But sometimes we still need some extra help.
Nettle leaf tea
Organic nettle tea (my favorite is from Traditional Medicinals) made from stinging nettle plants is great in relieving seasonal allergy symptoms because it is a natural antihistamine. Look at that! You don't need that Claritin D after all :) You can drink this daily as a preventative or just as needed.
Spirulina and other super foods
Spirulina is a superfood full of amazing plant nutrients like iron, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C, and protein, and much more. (Psssshh, and they're still trying to sell us cow's milk LOL) Spirulina is great for overall health but can be beneficial during allergy season as well because it is high in antioxidants and protects the body from anything that can compromise the immune system. Spirulina is also high in Chlorophyll and is extremely detoxifying. Other super foods like kale, turmeric, maca powder, hemp, flax, etc are great for reducing inflammation and boosting your immune system.
Probiotics will help with your gut and immune system health which as we learned above, plays a big part in our season allergies. You can get probiotics by eating fermented foods like sauerkraut or kombucha, or by taking a probiotic supplement. Make sure your probiotics are organic, have no additives, and are vegan!
Apple cider vinegar
ACV is detoxifying and practically a remedy for anything and everything. Simply taking as little as a tablespoon a day can help you feel and be healthier which will reduce your allergy symptoms.
Essential oils such as melaleuca, peppermint, lavender, frankincense, lemon, and eucalyptus are great in helping with seasonal allergy relief. My favorite way to use these is to create a roller bottle with carrier oil and 5-10 drops of each essential oil. I like to apply this to my nose, around my eyes and behind my ears when I begin to feel swollen or puffy as well as applying this blend to the bottom of my feet. I will use these as needed as well as before bed as a preventative.
