DIY Natural Toothpaste
I'm here to share my recipe for all natural toothpaste that I make myself! This batch lasts me about 2-3 weeks and costs me nothing to make! I've been using this DIY toothpaste for a few months now and I still have all my teeth :) Nothing is worse than when you read a bath and body recipe and it calls for all these wacky ingredients that no one would ever think to have on hand. The great part about this toothpaste is that you probably already have these ingredients in your home! It's cheap and it works.
What you need:
3 tablespoons of baking soda
3 tablespoon of organic coconut oil
1/2-1 tablespoons of filtered water
10-15 drops of peppermint or cinnamon essential oil (I only ever recommend oils from doTERRA or Mountain Rose Herbs. Grocery store essential oils are NOT safe to use or put in your mouth)
1. Place the baking soda and coconut oil in a bowl and cut the coconut oil into the baking soda like you would butter into flour for a pie crust.
2. Add about 1/2 tablespoons of water give-or-take to form a paste-like consistency.
3. Mix in 10-15 drops of peppermint or cinnamon essential oil and transfer it to your toothpaste jar! You can buy empty toothpaste tubes on amazon, but I prefer to keep mine in a glass jar because it's zero-waste and safer than whatever type of plastic and chemicals those tubes are made out of.
This recipe makes just the perfect amount to fit into a 4oz mason jar!
To use, all I do is wet my toothbrush and dip it in the jar. If you choose to use your toothpaste using a dipping method, it's probably not enticing to share a jar with your whole family like you would a tube of toothpaste. But since the ingredients are cheap and it's super simple to make, you can easily whip up a jar for each member of your family or use a spoon to transfer the toothpaste onto your toothbrush :)
When I first started using this toothpaste, it tasted really salty to me, but I quickly got used to it. It leaves my mouth feeling cleaner than any store-bought toothpaste ever has! Not only that, but it's better for your health. I have more information about why it's important to use natural toothpaste in this post.
