DIY Bug Bite Paste

Wednesday, August 9, 2017

Hi friends! It's been a while since I've posted a recipe like this. It's now August, and although the nights are getting cooler, the days are still hot and the bugs are still biting. For some reason I occasionally have really bad reactions to mosquito bites. They get big. Like, really big. I remember a time when I was 4 or 5 my mom took me to the hospital because I had a mosquito bite that worrisome.

This is a simple recipe that my mom has used ever since I can remember. She would make a paste out of baking soda and water to put on my bug bites that got super swollen. This sucks the poison out which helps with the itch and ultimately helps them heal faster.

Now that we use essential oils, I've added a few to the recipe that are soothing to bug bites and itching. If you don't have essential oils, no worries! Baking soda + water works wonders alone. This can be used for mosquito bites, bee stings, etc! Without further ado, here is a DIY bug bite paste!

What you need:
1 tablespoon of baking soda
1 teaspoon of filtered water
1-2 drops of bug-bite friendly essential oil (optional)
  • Lavender
  • Peppermint
  • Melaleuca
  • Frankincense
Mix the baking soda, water, and essential oils together in a bowl and apply generously to your bug bite. Let sit for 10-15 minutes. The paste will harden and will then easily flake off. Rinse the bug bite and apply coconut oil to sooth, and another drop of essential oil if extra relief is needed.
