Natural Skin Care Routine

Sunday, June 5, 2016

Ever since 7th grade I have been going from product to product trying to find the right combination to heal or at least control my acne. I switched from using a normal Neutrogena face wash, 2 prescription face creams that I had been using for probably over 5 years, as well as an over the counter benzoyl peroxide cream and Cetaphil moisturizer. Using these products were better than doing nothing, but I never noticed a great difference. At the time I wasn't sure what else I could do, nor was I willing to try anything else, but at the beginning of 2016 I decided to just go for it and try a more natural route with my skin. I got rid of my prescription creams and then eventually my over the counter creams and face washes. Of course I still have the occasional breakout just because I think my skin likes to torture me, but overall, my skin has never looked better! Here's what my natural skin routine looks like:

Step 1: I wash my face with Frankincense and Myrrh Soap from Morning Song Gardens. This is a local based company so if you don't live in Ohio I'm not sure you will find these in stores. But you can always order online! I only use this bar for my face, and it lasts such a long time! I'm still on the same bar that I bought back in December!
Step 2: I take a little bit of coconut oil and add one drop of Frankincense and one drop of Melaleuca (tea tree) oil (I use doTerra) and use that as face moisturizer! I do still use Cetaphil occasionally, but I am trying to move away from that and use only coconut oil as a moisturizer. Frankincense and tea tree are the best possible oils for skin, and they have worked wonders for mine! I used to have dry patches but also really greasy skin at the same time. Since using these oils every day, I have neither! It has created the perfect balance and maintains my acne at the same time. Frankincense is a pretty pricey oil but one bottle lasts a long time. I bought a 15mL in January and now it is June and I still have enough left until at least July!

I do this in the morning and at night.

One thing I have noticed since stopping my prescription that helped with acne scarring is that my scars take a little longer to go away than they would before. The Melaleuca oil helps with scarring, but I've learned that lemon helps too! I have the easiest face mask that helps with scars and I guarantee you already have everything in your house!
Acne Scar Mask:
-Baking Soda
-Lemon juice
That's it! Mix it all together and if you have any leftover you can store it in the fridge for next time! Even if you only get the chance to do this once a week it will still really help fade the scars faster :)

I know it's easy to get caught up in thinking you need all the chemical filled face washes and face creams in order to get clear skin- I was in that world for over 6 years! And maybe it really works for some people, but if you're using all that and you're still struggling, I recommend looking into something like this because I promise your skin will thank you. I think of it this way, if you're nice to your skin, your skin will be nice to you :)
